Transfer from the airports
Marco Polo, Treviso and Santa Lucia station: how to reach Piazza San Marco without surprises on timing.
From Marco Polo
The Alilaguna is the most convenient direct link: a vaporetto straight to San Marco in about 1h15, no changes with luggage. Faster alternative: ATVO or ACTV bus to Piazzale Roma (20 min), then vaporetto line 1 or 2 (25-30 min) — 45-50 minutes total but with one change.
From Treviso
A direct ATVO scheduled bus to Piazzale Roma takes about 70 minutes, then a vaporetto to San Marco. This is the low-cost airport: always allow extra safety margin.
From Santa Lucia (train)
The railway station is already inside Venice: vaporetto line 1 (slow, scenic, stops at every Grand Canal landing) or line 2 (faster) to San Marco, about 30-35 minutes.
Carnival, the Biennale, the Historic Regatta
Carnival takes over the city in February, the Art/Architecture Biennale alternates between April and November, and the Historic Regatta colours the Grand Canal on the first Sunday of September.
